The operetta is back
at the former operetta house
Last night La Périchole celebrated its premiere in the sold-out Halle E of the MuseumsQuartier. Nikolaus Habjan revived Offenbach's masterpiece with a finely mocking look at politics and culture.
The audience celebrated the entire ensemble with prolonged applause: Anna Lucia Richter and David Fischer as the lovers Périchole and Pequillo, Alexander Strömer as Don Andrés de Ribeira, Boris Eder and Gerhard Ernst as Count Panatellas and Don Pedro, Paul Graf and Florian Stanek as two notaries, Angelo Konzett as the Prisoner, Tania Golden, Alexandra Maria Timmel, Bettina Soriat and Susanna Hirschler as the three cousins and the Court Lady, as well as puppeteer Anderson Pinheiro da Silva and the Arnold Schoenberg Chor. The musical direction was in the hands of Jordan de Souza, who together with the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien provided lilting waltz sounds.
"Diese neue „Périchole“ bietet herrliche Musiknummern und beste Unterhaltung mit Zeitbezug. Ein richtig toll gemachter Operettenabend, exzellent musiziert und gespielt!“ BR Klassik
„Ein äußerst unterhaltsamer Abend.“ APA
„Regisseur Nikolaus Habjan und sein exzellentes Team befreien Offenbach aus der Plüschecke, setzen vielmehr auf großartige Obrigkeitskritik.“ Kurier
We warmly congratulate all those involved on this lively evening of operetta.
La Périchole can be experienced at the MuseumsQuartier | Halle E until 31 January.
