Season opening at the Kammeroper
We opened the 23/24 season at the Kammeroper yesterday with a "Romeo and Juliet" story in the age of social media. Director Marcos Darbyshire stages Philip Venable's tragedy about two Russian teenagers, which is based on a true story, in an intense and captivating way. What is real, in which world do we move, how does social media influence us, where does voyeurism begin? British composer Venables illuminates these and many other questions in his opera Denis & Katya, which received its Austrian premiere yesterday at the Kammeroper.
The audience thanked all those involved with long-lasting applause: mezzo-soprano Hasti Molavian, baritone Timothy Connor, the four cellists of the Klangforum Wien PPCM Academy, director Marcos Darbyshire and Anna Sushon for the musical rehearsal.
Denis & Katya can be experienced at the Kammeroper until 12 October.
