’Das Gericht wird von der Schuld angezogen’, says Franz Kafka in Der Prozess. No writer has depicted the entanglement of the individual in an incomprehensible state machinery so precisely and at the same time coolly and vividly as Kafka, who died in 1924. It is no wonder that Der Prozess has inspired writers, film and theatre directors and composers alike. The cultural scientist Thomas Macho and the well-known writer Ilija Trojanow take the new production of Gottfried von Einem's trial opera as an opportunity to explore the ‘myth’ of this novel fragment.
